Nephrology and Kidney transplant department of saims hospital is amongst one of the largest upcoming center. The department is executing more than 350 hemodialysis per month and has played a profound role in management of critically ill patients. This department is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, including electrolyte disturbances and hypertension, and care of those requiring renal replacement therapy, including dialysis and renal transplantation. Patients are referred to nephrologists for various reasons, such as Acute renal failure, Chronic kidney disease which is often discovered on routine blood chemistry done for unrelated purpose and is commonly referred to as CKD.
The department consists of highly skilled committed nephrologists, transplant surgeons and a large team of residents. The paramedical staff including dialysis technicians, nurses and housekeeping staff are well versed with their technical skills and perform equivalent to world's best centres. It provides a full range of renal services including hospital hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and care for transplant recipients.
The Nephrology Division at the SAIMS/MOHAK provides all of the inpatient and outpatient nephrology care to patients.
Inpatient care revolves around acute consults, often of patients with renal failure, care of transplant patients, and provision of dialysis services. All patients who have received, or are about to receive, a kidney transplant are followed by the Nephrology Division. All admitted patients who are on dialysis are followed and receive dialysis treatments supervised by nephrologists during their hospital stay.
The unit operates 24x 7and provides the following services using the latest equipments:
- Conventional hemodialysis
- Bedside hemodialysis for patients in the intensive care unit
- Sustained low efficiency daily dialysis (SLEDD) & Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT ) - a form of dialysis used for critically-ill patients
Outpatient services consist of initial and follow-up consultations referred from a wide geographic area. In addition we follow chronic dialysis patients and patients who have received a kidney transplant. All donor and recipient kidney transplant evaluations are performed by nephrology.
Outpatient dialysis : Dialysis is a option available to the patients with acute or chronic renal failure, that can be performed in the hospital or on an outpatient basis. We have 12 dialysis stations which run in shifts, In addition there is facility for portable dialysis. On an average Approximately 20- 25 patients are dialyzed daily. Dialysis are performed 24*7 and all the emergency dialysis in the night are strictly performed under nephrologist's supervision We also provide Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal dialysis on an outpatient basis. We have separate dialysis stations for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C patients. We also have a dialysis VIP suite unit with separate staff and personal care.
Our clinical program is divided into inpatient consultation, outpatient consultation, dialysis, and transplant.
The Nephrology Division has an active educational program with a large number of regular conferences including: Journal Club, pathology, clinical, research and nephrology grand rounds. Much of Nephrology practice is accomplished as part of a team that includes other Nephrologists, nurses, technicians, surgeons and most importantly, the patients themselves. This is accomplished by participating in inpatient and outpatient rotations, didactic seminars, conferences, and one-on-one interactions with the Nephrology faculty, residents, and support staff.
